I'm 3 days into it............

I'm three days into excluding meat in my daily diet. The problem is that I am unsure of how to balance my meals and also I am not good with ensuring that I eat three meals a day..............how should I begin? I decided to exclude chicken, beef and pork from my diet to improve my health. I did not have any medical issues such as diabetes, etc.

Hi Shara,

Thanks for the question and for visiting the site.
Since, as we have said before, we are not physicians and do not dispense medical advice, this is only our opinion but we do recommend that you at least have a conversation with your physician or nutritionist to ensure that you are healthy enough to readily adapt to a new diet regimen.

That said, in order to maintain a good balanced diet we recommend that you consider including a lot of fruit, nuts, greens and beans in your diet.

In fact, if you are not getting three meals a day it is important to have a broad spectrum of foods from which to choose so that you get a sufficient amount of protein (beans and cheese if you are not giving up dairy), vitamins and minerals. Fruit, nuts and greens, especially dark leafy greens such as kale or spinach, will be important.

We also recommend whole wheat, rice or whole grain
pasta and breads rather than the "typical" kind when you eat pasta and bread.

I could go on but instead I want to recommend that you click the link for the Free Vegetarian Starter Kit in the navbar to the left of the page. It is an adobe file that you can print or save on your computer for future reference. It really is invaluable and contains not only nutritional information but recipes and tips as well. I think it will give you plenty of information to get you well on your way.

Finally let me say that I applaud your decision to move to a plant-based diet. It is a healthier more compassionate way to live and believe me when I say that there are many, many tasty, healthy, terrific recipes from which to choose. It really is an adventure! We hope you will love it as much as we do!
