Peggy's Marinara Sauce

by Susan B.
(Forty Fort, PA)

This is an easy family recipe for marinara. Surprising how many people would still eat the stuff out of the jar...when this is so simple to make and tastes much better.

Ingredients

2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 - 4 garlic cloves, chopped
1 large can tomato puree
1 large can chopped tomatoes
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 Tbsp. oregano
1 Tbsp. parsley
1/2 Tbsp. basil
sugar to taste

How we make it

In a large skillet over medium heat, saute onion and garlic until tender.
Add other ingredients, reduce heat and cover. Cook for one hour.

This is excellent for all kinds of pasta dishes. We like ti with cheese stuffed shells and manicotti.

It freezes really well too!

Simple elegance
by: Rich from NJR

Susan thank so much for sharing this wonderful marinara recipe with us. It looks very simple and basic - and I like that. We often have a tendency to overdo things. A simple recipe like this brings us back to center...calms us if you will.

I think it has a simple elegance and I would guess a taste that is not muddied by a lot of exotic flavorings...simple. basic, rich and tasty. I have to do a pasta dish challenge this weekend and will use this sauce as my base...

Stay tuned and we'll give you a detailed accounting.
I hope we can do your recipe justice!

Thanks again.
